Three School of Liberal Arts students from the Dean’s Student Advisory Board take us through their personal journeys, where they balance their interdisciplinary interests, classes and clubs to create a full Tulane SLA experience. Here is a day in the life of Brandon Nguyen.

11 AM · Environmental Studies in action
I headed out to my first class of the day: Approaches to Environmental Studies. Today, we did a waste audit with the sustainability office! We got to sort through trash and recycling and learn about how recycling at Tulane really works.

12 PM · Music at Midday
Next, I went to Music at Midday, which is a super chill class where we learn about music history and attend an on-campus concert every Wednesday at noon. Today, I got to listen to James Oakes performing his program “Piano Music by Black American Composers.”

4 PM · Leadership with Posse Scholars
This afternoon I went to my weekly meeting for my Posse Scholars group. Today, one of my Posse-mates led a workshop on leadership. As part of it, we did an activity where we competed to build the tallest free-standing structure with tape and noodles (my team won).

7 PM · Studying with suitemates
I got some studying done in the evening with my suitemates, Andrew and Gileomar. It’s helpful for me to study with friends so we can hold each other accountable. It also helps to explain topics to one another.

10 PM · Winding down with FIFA
I ended the night by playing FIFA with my friends, Essaid and Matthews. This is how I like to wind down, but we usually get super competitive and stay up playing way longer than we plan.
